Hello and welcome to 'Human Milk' Clothing and Accessories.
We create beautiful, contemporary clothes that are easy to breastfeed in, and gorgeous accessories, all adorned with designs inspired by the composition of human milk, and all with an extra purpose. We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting parents and infants globally by promoting the science of human milk and breastfeeding.
Our clothes are super soft, super sciency and beautifully designed, with the hope of giving you a sense of being cared for, and a sense of belonging to a wider village. Every step of the production process is certified as being responsible and ethical, to make sure no-one is exploited in the process, including Mother Earth.
The brand was founded by the same team that produced the 'Human Milk, Tailor-Made for Tiny Humans' advert that has been viewed over 6 million times online in the last year. Our advert and further resources are being used worldwide for training and education in hospitals, universities, health centres, conferences and breastfeeding support groups, reaching parents, healthcare professionals and students globally.
Profits from Human Milk will be reinvested into funding the production and screening of further adverts for the science of human milk and breastfeeding on mainstream TV globally, and to continue to build a comprehensive, easy to understand database of multi-media resources that anyone anywhere can access and use for free. We will also be supporting a small number of organisations and projects working on the ground to help families to breastfeed, and access donor milk where needed. All our collaborations will be announced and updated transparently.
We want every mother who wants to breastfeed, alongside her family, to receive all the support they need, in an atmosphere where everyone understands the importance of what she’s doing. Breastfeeding support is chronically underfunded. Mothers everywhere need more support and more recognition.
Lactation dates back hundreds of millions of years, and nutrition is only one of the roles of lactation. Human milk contains a huge multitude of live components that prevent illnesses, and that teach your body to recognise helpful microbes from harmful microbes that cause disease, for example. It also sets up a healthy gut microbiome, helps to prevent your immune system from attacking your own body, and protects mothers from a range of diseases, not least breast and ovarian cancer.
The World Health Organisation estimates that over 800,000 infants die each year globally because they are not being protected by human milk, alongside 20,000 women as a result of breast cancer. We would very much love to make a big dent in those figures.
