BB Pads is all about sustainable, ethical and transparent textiles, feeding into a transition towards a circular economy, as well as helping to tackle period poverty, period and plastic waste, whilst also supporting and advocating for women’s and human rights.
Our pads are 100% plastic-free, harsh chemical-free, reusable and home-compostable. They are composed of a combination of different layers of carefully selected fabrics such as certified organic, unbleached and undyed cotton, blends of waste plant fibre fabrics (pineapple, galangal, hemp and kapok) and TENCEL™. The textiles we use hold qualities which make them absolutely perfect for their role in period pads. The outer layers of fabric on the pads are also dyed with natural plant-based dyes – minimising their environmental impact. None of the fabrics used contain any micro-plastic fibres which we felt was extremely important for an item to be so frequently washed to prevent the release of thousands of miniscule, polluting fragments of plastic into the water system.
The pads are made in a small family-owned factory in Bangkok and the shipping from Thailand is carbon neutral, offset into a Gold Standard verified Taiwanese wind power project. London customers will have their orders delivered carbon neutral by electric vehicle or bicycle. All packaging is plastic-free, sustainably sourced or made from recycled materials and is either recyclable or biodegradable. Ten percent of profits will also be going to the Pachama Project which makes and distributes reusable period pads to refugees in Lebanon and Greece.
