Innovative app protecting vulnerable people against financial harm

WORDS FROM KALGERA

Kalgera - help secure financial wellbeing Money worries and risks like fraud and scams are affecting an increasing number of people, especially those most vulnerable. In 2017, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) found that half of UK adults show signs of financial vulnerability. This means that over 25 million people in the UK would be unlikely to cope with financial stress. Individuals who do better during times of crisis are more resilient because they put financial plans in place in advance. This includes seeking advice and support from professionals or people they trust like a partner, close relative, carer or friend.

Every year, people in the UK lose £1.2 billion to fraud and scams. Social isolation, stress, mental health conditions, as well as memory and thinking problems make us more likely to suffer a scam. Age UK found that nearly 5 million older people are targeted by fraudsters each year. Falling victim to one scam increases the risk of another affecting the physical and mental wellbeing of all involved.
