TIMELESS PRODUCTS MADE USING NEW AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

WORDS FROM KAYU

KAYU is a line of accessories made using traditional techniques but infused with a modern Californian sensibility. Founded by Jamie Lim, KAYU means “wood” in Malay; an ode to her cultural heritage as well as a reflection of our commitment to using natural materials like straw, wood and shell.

KAYU handbags are sold in over 200 stores worldwide, online at our website kayudesign.com and at our flagship store in California. We have been featured in publications like Vogue, InStyle and Elle and on celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Kourtney Kardashian and Whitney Port.

At Kayu we value and believe that every woman has the right to develop to her fullest potential and earn a living wage. Our bags are made by women in the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia. These women are mothers and weaving allows them to work from home, look after their children and also provides them with a source of income.

In 2015 we brought some of our production to America. We now offer custom monogramming on a range of our bags through an on-going training initiative with the San Francisco YMCA. Our initiative provides new immigrant women with practical training and an alternative source of income.
