WORDS FROM COMPASS PROJECT

We are a community of people in recovery from substance misuse. We operate a social enterprise called The Compass Project which takes donated goods from our local community, recycles them and sells them in our two recycled goods shops.

We started this project from scratch – with hardly any money, no professional help, and virtually no recognition from the recovery community.  When we told people that we wanted to build and run a social enterprise comprised entirely of people with a history of addiction they thought we were crazy. We have definitely had to fight and struggle along the way. But this struggle has been tiny compared to our full out tug-of-war with self-destruction and anger and drugs. You see – we are capable of extraordinary things because we are survivors of this crippling affliction.

Two years on and the success of our second hand furniture shops has surpassed even our own expectations. We have since worked collaboratively with other organisations both locally and regionally. We look forward to even more growth. We are proud to be members of The Compass Project.
