"Why She Techs? To show off my techy side in a way that feels like me - playful and with attitude."

Atty has been a web developer for over 15 years. "My first ever software developer job was on a team of three in a travel company. The supervisor and senior were both women, but it never occurred to me that this was anything remarkable. One was also a drummer, we built software and listened to the radio. Very nice."

As I moved companies and started to pay attention to the 'tech world' in general, the statistics about women working in tech spoke for themselves - currently standing at approximately 22%.

So, I finally acknowledged that I was a 'woman in tech' after years of reading numerous posts and articles about the low levels of both women in technology jobs and girls taking STEM subjects in secondary and higher education, as well as other factors affecting women working in technology.

I've never felt the need to define myself by my gender or anything else about me, but some messages are too loud to ignore. After years of believing being a woman wasn't relevant to my experiences, I felt there must be many things I could do to recognise and celebrate women in a traditionally male industry. This is one of them.

My desire is for She Techs to provide t-shirts, hoodies, bags and stickers for women and other genders in tech to express their techiness in a way that feels real to them, whether that's with humour, subtlety or outright defiance. I  use Teemill to fulfill the orders because they are carbon-neutral, using sustainable practices and renewable energy and actively promoting sustainability.
